On the Mendocino Coast of Northern California in the town of Little River, you’ll find the Little River Inn. The first thing we noticed driving up here was just how beautiful this area is. The historic charm and warmth is felt the moment you drive up to the property. So here’s an inside look at Little River Inn.
About/The History
The original house on the property was built in 1853 by the Coombs family. In 1939, the family turned this beautiful oasis into an inn and is still family run today. The fifth generation of the Coombs family now manages the property and has made it the place to stay on the Pacific Coast. Friends, family, and four-legged friends alike are all made to feel like family when you visit here.
This beautiful inn has also seen it’s fair share of famous guests - James Dean even stayed here while filming East of Eden and there’s a photo of Ted Danson at the property in the reception space as well.
Rooms
Little River Inn boasts over 60 rooms on site - which each room having it’s own unique flair. The rooms feature large soaking tubs, wood and gas burning fire places, ridiculously comfortable beds, and views that make you feel like you need to pinch yourself because there’s no way a place this beautiful on earth exists.
Amenities and Add-ons
Little River Inn has the most interesting options for room add-ons I’ve ever seen in a property. They have typical packages for the area that include things like whale watching and winery tours, but I’ve never seen a venue that has options like “ultimate romance” with picnic baskets filled with goodies and “stargazing packages” that include a blanket, binoculars, star map, and hot chocolate. What a romantic way to spend an evening - and perfect for my space-loving hubby!
I also want to come back in March for the deal they offer which is if you stay two nights, you’ll get free tickets for a whale watching tour - what fun!
They also have a 9 hole Audubon certified golf course, driving range, putting green, pro shop, tennis courts, and pickle ball is being added later this summer. The golf course is open to the public and memberships are available.
Events like weddings can be held on the front lawn overlooking the Pacific and there’s a conference room where the deck space can be covered as well.
Dining on Property
The Little River Inn Restaurant offers breakfast, brunch, and dinner. We highly recommend making a reservation before going because not only is this place convenient for the inn guests, it’s also very popular with the locals. The restaurant is composed of a few rooms - the Whale Watch Bar, the terrarium, and the side dining room. There really isn’t a bad place to sit because every space has huge windows for you to look out and see the coastline or gardens.
Hotel guests may order breakfast to be delivered to their room or enjoy breakfast in the restaurant. If you opt for your breakfast brought to your room, you’ll simply fill out the room service card and hang it outside your door the evening before. In the morning, your food is delivered at the time you select in a warmer bag and is carefully packaged so that everything is perfectly warm and presented beautifully.
Literally everything we ate was delicious. We have zero complaints with our food and we’d definitely dine there again when we’re in the area.
There’s also the Twin Court area where you can dine al fresco with your pups and they’re building a new cafe area for lunchtime and snack offerings.
